PROFESSOR LJUNGQVIST
\nStill active today at the age of 93, he started his anti-doping career 53 years ago in
\nSweden. Since then he has been fighting doping in sports from leading positions in the
\nmajor global sports organizations: World Athletics (former IAAF), the International Olympic Committee (IOC), and the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA \u2013 which he co-founded in 1999). In 2012, he expanded his work by establishing a foundation with the mission to fight the use of doping substances also in society, specifically targeting youth\u2013 Professor Arne Ljungqvist Anti Doping Foundation (PALJF).<\/p>\n

Professor Arne Ljungqvist:
\n\u201cI am of course immensely honored and grateful for this
\nmonument. Et Purus touches the world of sports as well as our
\nsociety. It is celebrating pure health in all its forms, as well as
\ncarrying a strong statement for winning with excellence \u2013 by
\nplaying fair and embracing the truth.\u201d<\/p>\n

ET PURUS \u2013 THE STORY
\nOn his 80th birthday reception in May 2011, Professor Arne Ljungqvist was awarded a
\nsculpture idea created to honor his then 40-year global crusade against doping in sports
\nand in society. It portrays the classic hand gesture \u201dNo 1\u201d, used all over the world by all
\ncultures, celebrating performance victory. A ring on the index fingertip symbolizes
\nexcellence performed with a clean and doping-free body (the \u201dwindow\u201d into an
\n\u201cinspected and a clean body\u201d). The monument was sculpted by renowned artist Sassona Norton. It was named \u201dEt Purus\u201d in Latin, meaning \u201cAnd Clean\u201d. Ten years later, with substantial support by
\nFabege and other parties, the first bronze monument was unveiled in Monaco \u2013 the
\nhome of World Athletics \u2013 by HSH Prince Albert II \u2013 Et Purus No 1. Now, the time has
\ncome for Et Purus No 2, in Professor Ljungqvist \u0301s home city of Stockholm.
\nThe sculpture Et Purus is intended, in a series of 20, to be placed in cities around the
\nworld. As a reminder of the conscious choice to stay away from doping \u2013 as a pure and
\nhealthy citizen and as a clean and competitive athlete.<\/p>\n
